(during the 10:00 worship hour)
(usually the 2nd and 4th Sundays)
During the school year, children of the church are invited to the front of the sanctuary at the beginning of the Sunday morning worship service for a short ‘Children’s Message’ before an adult volunteer takes them to the classroom for a lesson from the Deep Blue Sea curriculum. The one-room curriculum is perfect for children grades K-6 (or ages ~5-11).
We have a culture here of coordinating Sunday School days with the families that wish to participate in it; sometimes dates are adapted to the availability of the participants.
We always offer activity pages, children’s bulletins, and bags of toys every week for children to utilize during the service.
Our Children’s Ministries Team helps provide other activities throughout the year. These may include, but are not limited to, Easter Egg hunts, bonfires and cookouts, leading songs during the worship service, picking up ‘noisy offerings’ for kids in need, and other kinds of in-church and in-community activities that are fun, educational, and inspiring to our beloved children.
Vacation Bible School (VBS) is a specialized form of religious education for children usually held as a week-long event during the summer. VBS utilizes curriculum that is both fun and inspirational. Instead of providing our own VBS, we support the VBS at the First English Lutheran Church (ELCA) in Wisconsin Rapids and recommend sending our children there. The VBS program is not specific to any denominational teaching and it is suitable for children in most Christian faith traditions. This VBS usually runs a few days in June.
Our Wisconsin United Methodist Conference provides two great camping experiences for children and youth: Pine Lake and Lake Lucerne. Pine Lake is located in rural Westfield, WI (50 minutes from Port Edwards). Lake Lucerne is located in Neshkoro, WI (1 hour from Port Edwards). Our church supports and provides funding for our children to attend these summer camps. Each site provides a variety of camping opportunities from day camps to weeklong, including specialized camps throughout the summer months. Pine Lake also doubles as a great Retreat Center.
